#41 - The Climb, Part 5

In the darkness, with only the rising choir of gales outside to compliment him, Pieter began to pray.

“Have mercy upon your child, who trespasses upon You in search of knowledge,” he murmured. “Have mercy upon your child who seeks only to understand more about You. Have mercy…”

Somehow, he slept.

In his dreams, black wings flapped, silhouetted against a bright sun, closer. Always closer...

The final part of The Climb. A short story set in the Poisonroot universe, it follows a priest trying to understand the origins of his religion in a world where the monodeity is a giant tree. Originally planned to be only four parts, this fifth part deals with what Father Brennan finds at the top of the tree.

This story that opened my NaNoWriMo entry for 2012. I wrote several short stories, each one designed to stand alone and yet to expand on the world of Poisonroot. That's a world which has seen more action through the D&D campaign I run than through any writing, but it's all useful nonetheless.

As always, I would love to collaborate with you! If you have short fiction that you would like me to include as a standalone episode of Pocket Fiction, drop me a line!

Each track is also available as a video on YouTube and as a podcast through the iTunes store.
