The House on the Hill

The House on the Hill takes us to a far-off city that borders the desert. For Melia, life comes with its tiny joys and sadnesses, like anyone else. The two most precious things Melia has are her son Jay and her soup recipe. Selling soup helps keep a roof over their heads, keeps food in their bellies, and keeps the loan sharks at bay. But when an earthquake strikes the city, it opens up opportunities... and peril. Will Melia be able to solve the mystery of the old house on the hill?

The illustration for this piece is from the first cooking book published in Germany, called Kuchenmaistry, and depicts a cook with a ladle making soup.
